This project is a master planning project to provide clarity on the identity and function of Riyadh as the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the principal locations of entry and exit to the city. This planning process involves the creation of city entry points that are functional, culturally notable and visually significant. It also requires consideration of the existing situation regarding the character of the approaches to Riyadh and the existence of informal or illegal activities adjacent to these roads. The study is a multi-disciplinary design and management study incorporating Master Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental, Economics, Wayfinding, and Transport expertise. The study will develop concept solutions for the issues identified in a way which assists the determination of the optimum location of gateway features on approaches into Riyadh. Ten entry locations into Riyadh have been identified and of these, four major and six minor entrances have been defined together with the associated approach road areas of interest.
